Hiding products using Product Visibility

If you are on the Premium plan installed before February 5 2026, Product Visibility is included in your theme install.

If you installed after February 5 2026, you will need a manual install.

Use Product Visibility to hide products from retail customers and have them only visible to wholesale customers logged in with a certain tag. In Wholesale Hub, go to Actions → Product Visibility.

You can also use Product Visibility to show specific products to certain customer groups, such as VIP customers, while hiding them from others. This flexibility allows businesses to tailor their product offerings to diverse customer segments.

Creating Product Visibility rules

Enter a tag

On the Product Visibility page, click New rule to get started. Under Rule details, enter one of your wholesale customer tags. Your Product Visibility rule will target whichever tag you enter here. For example, you can use tags like vip or retail to define which customer groups can see specific products or collections.

Note: The wholesale tag you enter must be created before being entered as a Product Visibility rule. Each Product Visibility rule can target one tag.

Choose collections and products

Click Choose collections to select which collections you want your rule to apply to, or click Choose products to select individual products. Any collections or products you choose here will be visible only to customers logged in with the tag you chose above and hidden from anyone else.

On the right-hand side, you’ll find a summary of the Product Visibility rule you’ve created. Click Save. A storefront sync starts, and changes appear after the sync finishes.

Best Practices for Product Visibility

  • Plan your tags: Before setting up visibility rules, plan your customer tags carefully to ensure they align with your business needs.

  • Test your rules: After configuring visibility rules, test to confirm that the correct products are shown or hidden for each customer group.

  • Ensure collections are populated: Make sure the selected collections contain at least one product to avoid issues with rule application.

For Product Visibility rules to work properly, it is essential that the selected collections contain at least one product. Empty collections might not be recognized for rule application, potentially causing issues or non-functioning visibility rules.

Advanced solutions

If you need stricter control (for example, hiding all products from retail visitors), you may need additional theme or app-level controls. Some merchants use third-party apps (such as Locksmith) alongside Wholesale Hub. Locksmith allows merchants to:

  • Hide specific products or collections from retail customers and restrict them to wholesale customers.

  • Customize visibility rules based on customer types, tags, or other criteria.

Note: Third-party apps work independently from Wholesale Hub. Test carefully to avoid unexpected visibility rules.

Deactivating all Product Visibility rules

If you need to uninstall Wholesale Hub for any reason, it's very important to deactivate any Product Visibility rules you have. This can be done easily by clicking Deactivate all rules in the top-right corner of the Product Visibility page.

Important: Deactivate Product Visibility rules before uninstalling Wholesale Hub. Otherwise, products may remain hidden.

To temporarily deactivate a specific Product Visibility rule:

  1. Find the rule you want to deactivate.

  2. Click the Deactivate option to pause the rule without deleting it permanently.

This allows you the flexibility to reactivate the rule later. If you need to delete the rule instead, you can select the delete option.
