BOGO (Buy-One-Get-One) offers are a popular promotional tool that allows customers to receive free or discounted items when qualifying items are added to the cart.

Check out the video below for an overview of this offer type, and keep reading for step-by-step instructions.
Step 1: Name your offer
Each offer requires a Name before you can save, so use the provided field to add a title for the offer. Later on, you can search for this name among your other offers for quick access.
Step 2: Set up the BOGO offer
Trigger
Set the product (or products) that need to be added to the cart to activate the offer. You can choose a single product, multiple products individually, collections or specific variants.
Use the Quantity selector to set the minimum amount of selected product(s) needed for the offer to activate.
Offer
Set the product or products offered when the criteria of the Trigger are met. Similar to the Trigger, you can select individual products, multiple products, individual collections, multiple collections, or specific variants for the Offer.
From our blog:
"You want to offer products that complement each other. For example, offering two pairs of winter boots in a BOGO may work, but you could be more successful offering the boots with laces or thick socks."
Discount
Select a discount to offer using the Choose discount dropdown.
To configure a basic BOGO offer where the second product is free, set the discount type to Percentage and assign a value of 100%. This ensures the second product is automatically discounted to free once the criteria are met.
There are three different options when setting your discount:
New price: Set a new price for the products in the offer. Example: Buy 2 T-shirts and get a third T-shirt at a new price of $14.99.
Discount percentage: Set a percentage-based discount for the offer. Example: Buy 2 T-shirts and get a third T-shirt at 50% off.
Discount amount: Set a dollar-based discount for the offer. Example: Buy 2 T-shirts and get a third T-shirt at $10 off.
For more advanced setups, such as 'Buy 2 Get 2 Free,' configure the promotion rules within the 'Trigger' and 'Offer' settings. Ensure that the discount is applied when the customer adds two trigger products, rewarding two additional free items upon checkout. You can optimize this setup further by creating collections with uniform pricing to simplify customer choices and pricing structures.
Step 3: Set your offer limit and popup option
You can choose to set an offer limit. This is the maximum number of times the offer can be redeemed in a single order.
You also have the option to show a popup in the cart, allowing customers to add the offer item(s) to their cart directly.
Step 4: Toggle sale badges and edit offer messages
Turn sale badges on or off using the toggle. Click here for more information on customizing sale badges.
Enter text for your BOGO offer's notifications in the BOGO message section. Use the provided fields to customize the Initial message, Progress message, and Success message.
The Initial message will show on qualifying product pages, or when a qualifying product is added to the cart. The Progress message will show in the cart once the criteria for the offer have been met or as a popup if this option has been selected. The Success message will show once the offer product has been added to the cart and the discount has been applied.
💡 If you've targeted specific variants in your offer, make sure this is reflected in your messages.
Step 5: Set up your offer availability
The Availability section lets you create a schedule for your offer and allows you to choose who can take advantage of your offer. Click here to learn more about offer availability.
Step 6: Preview your offer
After saving your offer, click the eye icon in the Ultimate Special Offers dashboard to preview the offer on your storefront.
Understanding BOGO Offers
The BOGO offer follows a pricing hierarchy to determine which items receive discounts based on the number of products in the shopping cart:
Two Items in the Cart: - The discount applies to the lowest-priced product. - For example, if you add products priced at $50 and $30, the discount will be applied to the $30 item.
Three Items in the Cart: - The discount applies to the second-lowest-priced product. - For instance, if the cart contains items priced at $50, $30, and $20, the $30 product will receive the discount.
Four Items in the Cart: - If the offer is triggered twice (i.e., two "buy one, get one" conditions are met), two discounts are applied—one to the lower-priced group of items and one to the higher-priced group. - Example: For products priced at $60, $50, $30, and $20, discounts might be applied to the $20 and $50 items.
While BOGO offers are easy to use, it is important to understand their limitations:
Predefined Discount Application: - Discounts in BOGO offers are applied to the lowest or second-lowest-priced products based on cart contents. Unfortunately it isn't possible to modify this logic. For example, there is no option to change the discount application to occur "after discounting" rather than at the product level.
